The Team

JESSA SMITH CAMPBELL

Founder & Artistic Director

Jessa Smith Campbell is an actor, playwright, and composer. She studied Musical Theatre at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and has trained at The Stella Adler Academy and the Upright Citizen’s Brigade in Los Angeles, CA. She has performed in feature films, television series, music videos, and numerous theatrical productions.

Inspired by the #MeToo movement and the politicization of the female reproductive system, Jessa wrote a one-act play titled North Carolina, 2028 which competed in the 2020 Strawberry One-Act Festival in New York City. Following its success, she fostered a true passion for women-driven pieces and began the first draft of Woven, an original musical based on the female characters of Homer’s The Odyssey. Woven debuted at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2023 to an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and audience members alike. She will revise and workshop the piece in the coming years, hopefully gaining the support from industry professionals who are interested in the development of new work.

Jessa set a goal to create a space where up-and-coming artists will be heard and their work will be championed. Thus, in 2023, she founded Nine Muses Theatre Co.
